During this year's upcoming MTV Movie Awards, Robert Downey Jr. will be awarded the Generation Award for his work as one of earth's mightiest Avengers by the Avengers themselves. Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo and Jeremy Renner will all be there. Not only that, but the Generation Award will culminate with a 90-second clip of the new Avengers movie.
For more than seven years, RDJ has played billionaire humanitarian superhero Tony Stark, better known as Iron Man. Out of any of the Avengers, RDJ's rendition of Stark is the most popular by leaps and bounds. You can even argue that the Iron Man trilogy is some of Marvel's best work to date.
MTV released a press release on the big event.
"Throughout his career, Robert Downey Jr. has mesmerized audiences by capturing the humanity in larger-than-life characters like Charlie Chaplin, Sherlock Holmes and Tony Stark," Stephen Friedman, president of MTV, said. "He's a brilliant actor and a Hollywood icon, and we are proud to recognize his tremendous passion and talent with this year's Generation Award."
Others who have received the award are Mark Wahlberg, Jamie Foxx, Johnny Depp, Reese Witherspoon, Ben Stiller, Adam Sandler, Sandra Bullock, Mike Myers, Tom Cruise and Jim Carrey. Out of all these guys, RDJ just might be the best.
You can finally catch Avengers: Age of Ultron May 1. The movie will be loosely based on the comic book storyline of the same name. Ultron, voiced by James Spader, was intended to be a peacekeeping fighting machine built by Stark because the Avengers were just too damn tired to save the day. His time as peacebot is short-lived, though, and Ultron eventually raises all hell -- with his main targets, of course, being the Avengers.
Spoiler alert: They win, somehow.
