Oh, Easter –– the time of coloring eggs, hunting for eggs (which better have money in them!), eating chocolate (and chocolate money!), and sitting on the lap of a gigantic, and normally terrifying, Easter Bunny. But did you know that's not all of the traditions this oh, so chocolatey holiday holds? Well, don't worry; MStars News is here to fill you into some of the more unknown Easter traditions from around the world that you probably never even heard of: things blessing food and wet t-shirt contests... kind of.
Okay, you've definitely never heard some of these.
According to a new list from the fine folks at BuzzFeed, while many Catholics are celebrating the resurrection of their main man Jesus H. Christ ... or just Jesus Christ to the Beliebers ... sorry, believers, other countries are doing some rather strange things.
Let's take a look at some odd Easter traditions from around the world.
Candle Party in Paraguay
In Paraguay, it appears that those celebrating the resurrection of Christ hold candles and pray at night. Which is nice, no?
Bless Me, Belarus!
In Belarus, it's tradition for Catholic priests to "bless baskets of food." We can't really imagine that happening in the United States, of course, because – well, we have no patience before eating.
Portugal's Playtime
Portugal has a rather standard (but interesting if you just see it on the street) tradition of re-enacting the "Stations of the Cross" segments of the Bible.
Hungary's Wet T-Shirt Contest
Okay, so it's not exactly as MTV Spring Break as it sounds, but according to BuzzFeed, part of Hungarian ritual is to toss water on women in "ornate folk clothing." They are reportedly chased around by the men who are trying to wet them... with water.
Sounds like a cheap reason to get frisky on Easter if you ask us.
So, readers, which Easter tradition did you find: Strange? Normal? Bizarre? Nice? Fun?
Let us know below! Either way, Happy Easter!
