A mother/daughter team has created a special dating site for those with autism in honor of National Autism Awareness month. Olivia Cantu, 18, and her mother Kristen Fitzpatrick, created the site SpectrumSingles.com to raise awareness for autism. According to them, aspects pertaining to the spectrum are not properly represented in the public sphere – with dating being one of those aspects.
The mom and daughter wrote on Spectrum Singles that the site was, "Made by people on the spectrum, for people on the spectrum."
"It can be difficult to determine the level of compatibility of a potential friend or partner on the spectrum through methods of conventional social media and online dating services," the site says.

Just like OKCupid, the website offers a compatibility test but this one is called the Spectrum Compatibility Test: "Our innovative Spectrum Compatibility Test TM does the work for you by narrowing the field from thousands of prospects to match your spectrum attributes with a select group of spectrum compatible matches with whom you can build a quality relationship", they continued.
The quiz features 184 questions that Olivia and her mom deemed important for those on the spectrum. Olivia explained that one question in particular about physical affection is not featured on other dating sites but is very important to her and those like her. She explains that physical affection is something she finds uncomfortable.
Spectrum Singles is a mostly paid website but if you want to try it out, a free version has basic functions that still allows you to navigate through the site.
The mom and daughter say their main focus is not to make money but to instead make it easier for those with autism to find a mate they're compatible with. Not only that, but they want to make sure they have a safe environment in order to do it.
