The Los Angeles Lakers are in talks with retired coach Phil Jackson after firing recent L.A. coach, Mike Brown. The Lakers have confirmed being in discussions between general manager Mitch Kupchak and Jackson about possibly returning to the bench as head coach.
Early Friday, the Lakers fired coach Mike Brown after a 1-4 start. Teammates and fans are devastated with a sluggish start after signing on basketball stars Steve Nash and Dwight Howard, in hopes to return to the finals.
Both Kobe Bryant and Howard ave talked about possibly playing for the 16- time champion, Jackson. Bryant voiced, "Knowing him the way I do, I think it's really just a matter of health, if he feels physically up to doing it," he said Friday. "He's a perfectionist. We all know he's a perfectionist. If he feels like he can come in here and give what he demands from himself, then I think he would be interested."
Lakers fans have been heard chanting "We want Phil!" and now it seems like the franchise is co-operating with their demands. However is Jackson willing to come back? If so what are the terms?
Jackson left the NBA in 2011 in order to restore his health, which had been effected by the demands of traveling and stress of the game. Even though there may be a slim chance that Jackson will not return, travel games may be his reasoning if he chooses not to. Other coaches that are considered for the Brown's positions are, Mike D'Antoni and Nate McMillan if Jackson plans to decline coaching the desperte team.
While the team scrambles to find a new coach, Bryant doesn't blame Brown for the teams losing streak, instead he blames Jackson, "A lot of it is Phil's fault. He teaches guys to be thinkers. He teaches us the little nuances, the details and the intricacies of the game that just a lot of people don't know. It's no fault of their own. When it comes to basketball, he's genius-level. It's tough for anybody to step in those shoes afterward from players that were raised underneath that tutelage."
