While we're pretty far away from seeing the ambitious new project from Ridley Scott, the sequel to Blade Runner, we could have a casting update to share with you. According to new reports, Ryan Gosling is allegedly in talks to join Harrison Ford in Blade Runner 2, which will begin filming in the summer of 2016. This is the only casting news we've heard since Ford was confirmed to the return to the cult-classic, sci-fi series, which will be directed by Prisoners filmmaker Denis Villeneuve. What does this mean for the film's plot? Keep reading to find out more about this project.

A new press release was sent out by Alcon Entertainment, revealing the news that Gosling was the only other actor currently being considered for the sequel. Ford is confirmed to return as Rick Deckard in this new project, which is set decades after the 1982 film (via Slash Film / Deadline). If Gosling does sign on, we're sure we'll be seeing lots of rumors concerning what type of character he'd play. Perhaps he'd be the new Ruger Hauer-type character? What do you think?

Aside from the draw and talent Gosling could bring, director Denis Velleneuve is definitely a good choice for this sequel. We're definitely interested in seeing what can happen when these actors and filmmakers come together!

There is plenty to be concerned about, too. Following Blade Runner doesn't sound like a great idea, but we recently reported on Scott explaining that his script was approved by a tough critic: Harrison Ford!

"I sent him [Harrison Ford] the script and he said 'That's the best thing I've ever read.' So it's very relevant to what happened in the first one," the director said last year in an interview with MTV News. "I'm not just doing a sequel with lots of action and see how far we can with the special effects. Because you can't really. With Blade Runner, we landed on a somehow very credible future. It's very difficult to change that because it's been so influential with everything else."
