Rocker Jon Bon Jovi's daughter has been acquitted from illegal drug charges, said media reports.
Stephanie Bongiovi was arrested Wednesday by police for drug possession charges along with her friend, who sought 911 help. The 19-year-old had allegedly overdosed on heroin in dorm room at upstate Hamilton College.
However, latest media reports suggested that Stephanie and her friend Ian Grant, were cleared of drug possession charges.
According to the New York Post, Oneida County District Attorney Scott McNamara ruled that "he was dismissing the charges because, under the law, someone suffering a drug overdose or seeking help for an overdose victim cannot be prosecuted for possessing a small amount of heroin or any amount of pot."
"People will say she got away with murder because of who she is, but this law was passed so people don't watch somebody die because they're afraid of jail," McNamara told the Daily News. "And you don't want the person overdosing to say, 'No, don't call."
The District Attorney reportedly said that that law had refrained prosecutors from pressing the charges on suspects and they had little choice but to clear them, referring to the Good Samaritan 911 Law.
In 2011, Gov. Cuomo implemented Good Samaritan 911 Law. This law was introduced to contain the number of deaths cause by overdose of drug. It also encourages people to call in police to help without a fear of being charged with drug case or arrested.
