Colombian rocker Juanes and the Mexican pop duo Jesse & Joy took home the top titles in Las Vegas Thursday at the 12th annual Latin Grammy Awards.
It was a star-studded evening at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, which saw the celebration of newcomers as they swept most of the significant awards, including singer and songwriter Carla Morrison, and 3BallMTY (read Tribal Monterrey), a DJ-anchored group that created its own style they call tribal guarachoso, said an official release.
Juanes bagged Album of the Year and Best Long Form Music Video for "MTV Unplugged." The Colombian pop sensation has so far won 19 Latin Grammy awards.
Dominican singer, songwriter and producer Juan Luis Guerra entered the night with six nods and won two.
"Here's to the maestro Juan Luis Guerra for making this possible," said Juanes, according to Reuters.
As for Mexican brother-sister pop due, Jesse & Joy nabbed Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Contemporary Pop Vocal Album and Best Short Form Music Video. The Mexican singer and songwriter Carla Morrison won for Best Alternative Music Album and Best Alternative Song, and 3BallMTY won as the Best New Artist, suggest a coming wave in Latin Music, said the release.
