A thousand Walmart workers walked out a week before the national shopping holiday, Black Friday. Workers from Southern California who walked out Wednesday and Thursday were followed by protesters in Seattle.
The protests are least likely to be the last one. Making Change at Walmart announced these protest are beginning, "including more strikes, rallies and online actions, at Walmart stores leading up to and on Black Friday."
Shoppers should expect strikes across the country hitting major cities like Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, Miami, Milwaukee, Washington DC. The employee strike is an attempt to exploit against their employers attempt to silence them, "company's manipulation of hours and benefits, efforts to try to keep people from working full-time and their discrimination against women and people of color."
Since Walmart has decided to begin their Black Friday sales on Thanksgiving Day workers have expressed their anger with their protest actions. The Making Change at Walmart created a video with Walmart employees to "stand up, live better."
National problems are added to the international crisis as Walmart investigations are being made into the bribery accusations in Mexico to Brazil, China and India. Potential violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) have increased.
In the Walmart regulatory filing it stated, "Inquiries or investigations regarding allegations of potential FCPA violations have been commenced in a number of foreign markets where we operate, including but not limited to Brazil, China and India," Walmart added, "When such allegations are reported or identified, the audit committee and the company, together with their third-party advisers, conduct inquiries and when warranted based on those inquiries, open investigations."
