Lena Dunham on ‘Girls’ Final Season 6: Star Announces HBO Series End Following ‘Scandal’ Appearance

Better catch up on your Girls, folks. It's being reported that star and creator Lena Dunham doesn't plan on doing too much more. In fact, the actress-writer is now filming the fifth season of her acclaimed HBO series, and has said that Season 6 will probably be its last. What she'll do after remains to be seen, but after her pretty interesting performance on ABC's Scandal – and the fact that Girls was such a unique success – our guess is Dunham will probably be just fine.

The star recently sat down with Variety and talked about her series. On the run, she admitted that American television shows have a tendency to push "past their due dates" and run way too long, in her opinion. Therefore, she's going for what she calls the "British model" –– an "in and out" type of approach.

With that, however, one could argue that six seasons is far from an "in and out" approach. Many British series last a few seasons or so and end with an elongated final episode.

As far as the end of the HBO show, Dunham isn't sure what will be for her character. "Will she be with anyone?" she says. "That's the question. And how important is it ending up with someone, and is that the marker of success for a woman?"

An interesting notion to come from the interview is the idea of a Girls movie following the series finale. While TV movies – meaning making films of TV shows; not those B-rated movies that appear only on television – are all the rage these days, Dunham admits that she'd like to do it a little differently. Specifically, she thinks it'd be cool to gather again in a decade or so to see where everyone is.

"I have fantasies of us all coming back when we're 40. We'd want to wait long enough for something to have really gone down."
