This week's episode of the CW's Arrow, entitled "The Fallen," featured a milestone in the relationship between Oliver and Felicity, aka Olicity, as the two finally slept together.
But that joy was quickly cut short as Oliver stayed behind to join the League of Assassins. So is there any hope for Olicity and its fans?
Showrunner Marc Guggenheim spoke to TVLine about that, and he first addressed why the love scene went down the way it did.
“There was a strong desire to have Oliver and Felicity sleep together before the events of the season finale, which isn’t to say that we were going to have them sleep together in the season finale,” he said. ”We wanted to take that off the table prior to the season finale. We knew Episode 320 was the episode to do it in. We went back and forth in the writers’ room about the right venue for it. Like does it happen in Starling City? Does it happen in Nanda Parbat? And as you can see, they end up sleeping together in Nanda Parbat. We liked the romance of that.”
Interestingly, Ra's al Ghul was the one who convnced Felicity to confess her feelings to Oliver in the first place.
“I’m, personally, fond of the fact that it’s Ra’s who gives her the final push” Guggenheim said. “One of the things that I keep seeing on the Internet is [that] Felicity has never told Oliver that she loves him, and that was very deliberate. We were holding that back this season. The same way we were holding back them sleeping together, we were also holding back her saying, ‘I love you,’ to him. We wanted it to be part and parcel of that moment.”
So is there hope for Olicity? The final three episodes of the season will explore that.
"The last three episodes spend a lot of time addressing the question of: 'Is there hope for Oliver?'" Guggenheim said. "And: 'Is there hope for Oliver in Felicity's mind?' [Episodes] 21 and 22 have some very specific things to say about that and Felicity's coming to grips with the conclusion of Episode 20."
