The 2015 official trailer of The Fantastic Four has been released, featuring Marvel Comics' longest-running superhero team. Director Josh Trank (Chronicle) puts together an all-star dramatic cast - Miles Teller (Reed Richards / Mr. Fantastic), Kate Mara (Sue Storm / The Invisible Woman), Michael B. Jordan (Johnny Storm/The Human Torch), and Jamie Bell (Ben Grimm /The Thing) - as they bring their comic book alter egos to life.
As we previously mentioned, the plot revolves around a group of four outsiders who teleport themselves onto a dangerous universe. As their physical form is forever altered, the team must learn how to harness their daunting new powers. Can they actually work together though to save the Earth from a former ally turned enemy?
Here are our 5 thoughts on the Fantastic Four official trailer:
1) We're In The Ultimate Universe
The movie is starting to look more and more like its Ultimate Universe counterpart, like Andrew Garfield's Amazing Spider-Man movies. Reed (Teller) and his teammates, including Sue (Mara) are at the beginning of their relationship. If they're indeed following the Ultimate storyline, they're going to teleport themselves into a parallel universe, called the Negative Zone, or "N-Zone." If we are indeed in the N-Zone, the team has to deal with its entropic heat death and the lethally acidic atmosphere.
2) "I Don't Take Orders Well"
I totally get that the Fanatic Four movies previously made by director Tim Story were supposed to be family films. Just because this darker take is meant to cut out the cheese factor, that doesn't mean the witty humor is gone. Jordan shows a humorous side of Johnny Storm, delivering sarcastic comeback when he's being made fun of straight to his face.
3) The Muscle
That's right! The TURN: Washington's Spies actor is the muscle! When Reed needs something taken care of, he goes to his bodyguard, Grimm (Bell)! Amazing how Bell has changed his child actor days in Billy Elliot! I like how Bell acts like a tough guy, but he's not so bulked up that he has to prove it.
4) The Wire Reunion
Do you remember the marathon of the procedural/crime drama on HBO? That was Jordan as Wallace, the drug dealer, who gets killed by his friends, Bodie and Poot. Reg E. Cathey, who plays Sue and Johnny's father, was the deputy campaign manager, Norman Wilson, to Tommy Carcetti (Aidan Gillen). Though they were in different seasons, how awesome is it they were on the same show!
5) It's Clobbering Time!
Who the hell is The Thing (Bell) giving a beatdown? In the recent issue of Miles Morales: Ultimate Spider-Man #12, the amazing wall-crawler can be seen beating the crap out of Doctor Doom, after he threatened the life of his father. Since we've seen the face of Doctor Doom in the trailer, I hope that means we'll be seeing him in action
The Fantastic Four will hit theaters on August 7, 2015.
