On the 100-year anniversary of the Armenian genocide nobody has been more outspoken on the subject than Kim Kardashian West. Last week marked the tragic anniversary and the one person Kardashian has been really disappointed in is President Barack Obama for not describing the violent act as a genocide.
She voiced her sentiments in an essay she wrote for Time Magazine:
"I would like President Obama to use the word genocide. It's very disappointing he hasn't used it as President. We thought it was going to happen this year. I feel like we're close, but we're definitely moving in the right direction."
Kardashian-West isn't the only person disappointed in the way President Obama acknowledged the genocide. Democratic Representative Adam Schiff was also disappointed in the President.
"The United States has long prided itself for being a beacon of human rights, for speaking out against atrocity, for confronting painful chapters of its own past and that of others,' said Schiff. 'This cannot be squared with a policy of complicity in genocide denial by the president or Congress."
Kardashian then went on talk about Turkey's denial of the 1.5 million killed in Armenia. According to her, it's something the Armenian people want to hear in order to fully move on in the healing process.
"It's time for Turkey to recognize it. It's not the fault of the people who live there now; it was 100 years ago on Friday. I think if they recognize it and acknowledge it, everyone can move on. I believe in moving on and looking toward a brighter future, but you can't move on unless you acknowledge the past. To not do so is an act of disrespect."
Kardashian-West finished the essay by saying she will be bringing up her daughter with the same strong sense of Armenian identity that her parents left her with. "When she gets older, I will explain to her the real meaning," she said.
