A shipwreck named Hannah M. Bell also known as, "Mike's Wreck" was discovered six miles off the coast of Key Largo in Florida. The 119 year old ship has been buried in the sea for more than 100 years.

The ship had been unidentified until the National Association of Black Scuba Divers (NABS) and NOAA's Office of National Marine Sanctuaries identified the ship that was a British steel-hulled ship built in 1893 to transport cotton, sugar, coal and other raw materials. The ship traveled to Europe, South America, the Caribbean, and both the East and Gulf Coasts in the U.S

The reasoning behind untimely death of the ship in 1911 has yet to be discovered. A maritime archaeologist at the Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary, Matthew Lawrence has been responsible for the investigation, "Similar to the way detectives use forensic information to solve a crime, we compared the dimensions and construction characteristics of the shipwreck known locally as 'Mike's Wreck' with historic shipping records in order to solve this mystery," Lawrence said in a release. "Measurements of the shipwreck and the records for Hannah M. Bell were virtually identical, as were the reported sinking location and the actual location of the wreck," he said.

When the ship Hannah M. Bell sunk, there were no reports on lives lost, however, according to WZVN "Mike's Wreck" could have been responsible for another ship sinking in 1920.  The Quoque's steamer had ran into the previous sunken ship.
