Arrest For Saying Santa's Not Real: Drunk Man Detained For Saying 'There's No Santa', Is He The Canadian Grinch?

Steve Koopman, was arrested at the annual Santa Claus parade while inebriated telling children that Santa Claus wasn't real. The Kingston, Ontario authorities tweeted that an arrest was made and explained why Koopman was detained.

Steve Koopman, Kingston's Police media relation officer said the man was arrested for a number of reasons. The Christmas Grinch was booked for public intoxication, disturbing the peace, and breach of probation. Parents at the parade were very upset when the man ran through the crowd telling children "the truth" about the man in the red suit.

According to the Canadian National Post, Koopman said, "It hits every officer." He added, "As most of us have children ourselves. Some people have been saying, 'We didn't know police arrested for [what they say is] telling the truth.' Some of us may disagree with that. In all honesty, he was disturbing everyone there are on the thoroughfare." Koopman continued about his concerns about the families affected by the Santa basher, "He was disturbing the families, obviously disturbing the children. We felt it very necessary to take him off the street and think the charges were warranted," Koopman explained.

The non-believer's appearance seemed very disturbing as he made it his agenda to look like a familiar Dr. Seuss' character that hates Santa Claus. Kingston police noted that the man had his hair gelled into two horns to resemble the Grinch from the classic Christmas book, "The Grinch Who Stole Christmas."

Koopman joked as he tweeted on the Kingston Police twitter account that, "His heart must be many sizes too small." The detainee was later released the next day, Koopman noted, "At the end of the day, we were all just wanting to have a wonderful and enjoyable parade, which it was."
