'Ice Lady' Murder Sentenced To Life In Prison For Chopping Up Ex-Husband And Lover, Sent To A Secure Mental Institution

Estibaliz Carranza also known as the "ice lady" was sentenced to life in prison in a mental institution after she gruesomely murdered her ex-husband and lover. The owner of an ice cream parlour kept the lifeless bodies in  frozen.

In 2008, Carranza shot an killed her husband Holger Holz while she sat at his computer, and in 2010 she shot her lover, Manfred Hinterberger as he slept in bed.

The Austrian woman, admitted to the murders and said she shot the two men in the back of the head then cut their bodies up with a chainsaw, putting their body parts in a deep freezer in the cellar of her ice cream shop. The 34-year-old woman was caught in 2011 when the bodies were found during maintenance work.

During the case Judge Susanne Lehr believed her murder confessions were factors of  "considerable psychological damage," however kept an open mind because Carranza planned the murders of her former lovers, which was still held against her. The Mexican Spanish immigrant broke down to Judge Lehr during the trial saying, "All I can say is that I'm sorry I took the lives of Holger and Manfred." 

In Carranza defense she said that her husband drastically changed after their marriage. She said Holz joined a Hare Krishna sect and became lazy and verbally abusive to her. After they divorce she met Hinterberger, and her ex-husband refused to move out of the home they had once shared.Her reasoning for firing four shots into Hinterberger was regarding discussing his infidelity. Rudolf Mayer, Carranza's lawyer plans on appealing the verdict.
