Detroit Lions first round draft pick Laken Tomlinson has aspirations to become a neurosurgeon after his now-budding NFL career comes to an end. The linebacker knows full well how the grueling the lifestyle of a professional athlete is so to keep him strong both physically and mentally he has a special type of workout. According to Tomlinson, he plays a lot of video games such as Madden and Street Fighter to keep his hands and fingers in top shape.
Tomlinson made the game claim during an interview with the Detroit Free Press:
"I have good finger dexterity, so I don't think I'll be having any problem with that," the rookie linebacker says. "My game is Street Fighter, like old-school Street Fighter but I did play a lot of Call of Duty, a lot of Halo, Madden."
Tomlinson says he'll be preparing to become a surgeon during the few moments he gets time to himself. The NFL lineman says he'll be looking through medical magazines so he constantly has a pulse on what's going on in the field of medicine.
"Obviously, whenever I have free time, I'm going to do my own research and try to keep myself updated in whatever's going on," Tomlinson said. "Whenever my career's over, I'm going to have to take my MCATs to go to med school, and that'll be the next step."
Tomlinson was drafted 28th overall by Detroit after having successful career at Duke University. He became a starter his freshman season and started 52 games during his career. The 6 foot, 3 inch lineman was named All-American by the Walter Camp Football Foundation during the senior year at Duke.
