Tim Allen's Chevy Impala was stolen by 34-year-old Faustino Ibarra Monday. Sonny Jackson, a Denver police spokesman said that the thief drove from Los Angeles to Denver where he was later detained.
In a Denver jailhouse where Ibarra is being held without bond, he told a KDVR-TV interviewer that he was allowed to drive the car because he was Allen's adoptive son and that Allen left the garage door open along with his keys, "I emailed Tim, told him everything is fine, the car's in perfect shape ... He left the door open and he left me the keys so I could get the car and take it to Denver ... My dad loves the heck out of me. He's ultra-proud of me and he wants to see the best for me in every way," Ibarra said.
Ibarra seems certain of his relations with Allen, officials say differently. Jackson says there is no proof of Ibarra ever being adopted by Allen. When the car was stopped in Denver, it hadn't been reported stolen. Allen's rep did not make a statement because of on gong investigation.
