This year we've seen the entire Kardashian clan slowly take up issues regarding social change. Two weeks ago, there was the big Bruce Jenner 20/20 interview. A little before that, the Kardashians went to Armenia in order to recognize the genocide within their heritage. Now the family has taken up another cause, and that is mental health. During a Google Chats discussion, Kanye West's wife, Kim Kardashian revealed she became passionate about the mental health of others after watching a documentary called Red Flag.
During the discussion, she candidly spoke on her own issues.
"For me, I have experienced so many friends who have suffered from depression and other mental illnesses. And because I've never experienced it, I don't understand it. I wanted to really inform myself because it's not just something that you can snap out of," she explained.
"I just started to see too many people around me suffer, and I couldn't give them advice for where they should go to get help," she continued. "And so I wanted to really inform myself and try to help inform other people and bring awareness."
Kim then went on to say that she felt the issue of mental illness has always had a bad stigma attached to it and her plan is to help change that. According to her, she wants people to feel like they should be okay with opening up about what they're going through.
"It's something that I feel is a little bit taboo," she said during the Google Chat talk. "I also think it's hard for people to admit they have a mental illness and I want them to know it's okay. And there is help available."
Do you think Kim Kardashian will end up being a good advocate as it pertains to issues of mental health?
