FX released the official trailer for Season 2 of their horror/vampire thriller, The Strain. Based on Guillermo Del Toro's bestselling novels, published by Dark Horse Comics, Ephraim Goodweather (Corey Stoll) and Nora Martinez (Mia Maestro) are back "ready to hunt" after The Master.

As we previously mentioned, the teaser trailer presents the deadly vampire plague spreading at a faster rate across New York City. An old and retired vampire hunter, Abraham Setrakian, (David Bradley) and a rat exterminator, Vasiliy Fet (Kevin Durand), have joined Eph (Stoll) and Nora (Maestro) in the crusade to defeat the ancient evil. They must all work together to save the world from The Master and his minions, including Thomas Eichorst (Richard Sammel).

Check out our 5 thoughts on The Strain Season 2 trailer, entitled, Hunt The Master, here:

5) Hell Has Come To New York!

In the the cliffhanger of the first season finale, Eph started drinking again after his son, Zach, witnessed his mother turned into a vampire. Feeling even more defeated, Eph saw the skyline of the Big Apple up in flames. In the footage, things have gotten so bad, with the streets in utter chaos, Eph and his team are going to have to take back the island of Manhattan "one block at a time."

4) Badder Than Ever!

In the first season, actor Richard Sammel played Thomas Eichorst, The Master's right-hand man, with such coolness and confidence; like he really loved being the bad guy. Then there's David Bradley, who's definitely enjoying being the action hero. I'm already cheering for the Game of Thrones actor when he says as Abraham, "I vowed to hunt the Master till he day I die. If today is that day, then so be it!"

3) Somebody Really Loves Make-Up Effects!

As we mentioned before, two short teaser promos were recently released. Both teasers featured an ordinary-looking person slowly transforming into a blooduscker. It certainly looks like the special effects team are upping the ante on the vampires. They're more vicious and nasty-looking. Aw man, what's that thing coming out of its mouth!

2) New Characters!

Actress Samantha Mathis (Pump Up the Volume) shows up in the footage as her character, Justine Feraldo. Blink and you might miss Ron Canada (Lone Star) who appears briefly in the footage. Dutch (Ruta Gedmintas) is back from first season and she looks like she's getting it on with Vasiliy; aww yeah somebody's getting their freak on! The vampire/vampire hunter, the dude with the red hood, is back too! Is that Doug Jones (Deathbolt from Arrow The Flash) back as The Ancient?

1) She's Such A Badass!

In our recap from last season, Nora had to kill her own mother after she was bitten by a vamp. It looks like this season, Nora's gone all hardcore. Did she just shoot somebody in the head!?! Maestro's even slicing and dicing as she swings her sword around. If the bad guys underestimated her before, they're going to be in for a big surprise.

Season 2 ofThe Strain is scheduled to return to FX this summer 2015.

Readers, what do you think of the second season trailer?
