After arriving on the Android and the iOS last month, EA Sports UFC had to remove of its most prominent UFC fighters from the mobile game. UFC's light heavyweight champion, Jon Jones has been take out of the promotional images due to his alleged involvement in a hit-and-run incident.
As we previously mentioned, the UFC enforced the decision to strip Jones of his title. This is in response to the champ turning himself in to the police after a felony charge in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Along with the suspension, the mixed martial arts fighter was removed from the UFC 187 card on May 23 and was replaced by Daniel Cormier.
Jones allegedly ran past a red light in Albuquerque and struck a car driven by a pregnant woman. The pregnant woman in the incident, Vanessa Sonnenberg, suffered a broken arm in the crash. Jones then allegedly fled the scene on foot.
UFC president Dana White told ESPN's SportsNation, "This one was his last chance. He's got to handle his business outside of the Octagon and then we'll see where he goes from there."
On his official Twitter account, Jon Jones tweeted, "Got a lot of soul searching to do. Sorry to everyone I've let down."
According to Pasta Padre, EA changed their Facebook and Twitter pages to generic images, removing him as the face of the game. The 27-year-old was also removed from the the app icon, store page, and loading screen. He still remains featured in one of the screenshots on the store page though.
Polygon mentions, Jones will remain playable as an unlockable fighter in the free-to-play EA Sports UFC on mobile. Players can purchase the in-game currency and spend the gold to unlock Jones.
