Crimson Peak, which has a perfect 2015 Halloween release date, looks like one of the creepiest movies of the year, but this week director Guillermo del Toro revealed some plots details and spoilers about the horror movie that will surely add to the scariness! After watching the teaser and extended trailers for this new movie, we know that we're in store for a Gothic haunted house story full of ghosts and more, but now the filmmaker has explained that romance plays a large part in the production. Starring Mia Wasikowska, Tom Hiddleston, Jessica Chastain, and Charlie Hunnam, this new film is one of the director's biggest horror films, but as usual, there are plenty more layers to the movie than we can gather from the trailers.

Yes, there are ghosts aplenty in this movie, but why are they there and what do they mean to the characters? While speaking with IGN recently about this project, del Toro opened up about his inspirations, his vision and his techniques he used to create such a vivid story that is already receiving rave reviews.

"For me, I'm a guy that wants to... I always show you the monster," the director explained about his upcoming movie and his past projects. "I always want things to be up front. I want to show the faun, the kaiju, and ghost in the Devil's Backbone. Because in my belief, the scariest things in my stories are the humans. That's not very much in vogue."

Del Toro also explains why his ghosts that we've seen in the trailers are red, which is pretty unique in terms of these movie monsters. He wanted them to stand out and also explained that the haunted mansion is built on clay, which harbors these lost souls after being buried in it, which gives them the red color! It all makes complete sense and is absolutely terrifying to see!

"It's not so much things that go bump in the night in the normal haunted house [...] this isn't a horror movie but a Gothic romance," he explained, summarizing the plot in a way that you might not have thought. "It is sort of a hybrid of many impulses that were boiling in that era - sexual tension, romantic tension - and the fight between the rational and supernatural."
