It looks like producers are in-talks with popular funk-rock singer Lenny Kravitz to star in an upcoming biopic about the life of musical legend Marvin Gaye - and Gaye's adopted son Marvin Gaye III is not too happy about it. TMZ reports that Gaye III is ashamed that Kravitz would sign up for a film set to focus on a very dark period of his father's later life - the son finds it very "wrong and shameful." Apparently Gaye III plans on talking to Kravtiz to understand why he would consider signing up for such a disprespectful project.

After hearing the news that Kravtiz was approached by director Julien Temple (who worked on "London: The Modern Babylon") to star as Gaye in an upcoming biopic, Gaye III told TMZ, "The producers and directors of this film are very wrong and shameful. [They're] trying to do a film about a low period in his life. They don't even know the whole story."

Apparently the film will mostly focus on Gaye's later life in London when the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer battled depressing bouts of alcoholism and troubling tax/money issues. It is not a part of Gaye's life his son wishes fans will remember him by (Gaye was fatally shot by his own father in L.A. in April, 1984).

Reports confirm that Gaye III is a staunch defender of his father's legacy - he has sued for copyright infringement on many songs in the past.

Gaye's son actually went to school with Kravitz and the two are supposedly still pretty good friends - Gaye III hopes to personally talk with the "Black and White America" singer (who also acted in hit films including "Precious" and the "Hunger Games") to see exactly "why he would do this."

According to Gaye III, he and a group of other family members are meeting with lawyers to try and stop the biopic's production - "I would hope [Lenny] doesn't have any idea that we are against this film being done."
