MTV released an all-new promo for their upcoming horror/comedy drama, Scream. Based on the Scream movies by Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson, MTV kills the stars from their own shows - Anna Jacoby-Heron (Finding Carter), Ashley Rickards (Awkward) and Tyler Posey (Teen Wolf) - in the the trailer.
According to Slashfilm, here is the plot synopsis:
"Everyone has secrets. Everyone tells lies. Everyone is fair game. The new series is based on the Dimension feature of the same name. The series kicks off after a cyber-bullying incident results in a brutal murder, with the shocking violence stirring up memories of a killing spree from the past that has haunted some, intrigued others and maybe just inspired a new killer. It centers on a group of new teens - with two old friends struggling to reconnect at its heart - who become lovers, enemies, suspects, targets and victims of a killer who's out for blood."
In an interview with Vulture, the teaser is meant to be equal parts gory and comedic. To capture the the "meta commentary" of the movies, MTV senior vice-president for creative Joe Ortiz explains what he aimed for, "We as a brand wanted to prove we mean business, and to announce Scream in a big, bold, fan-centric way. What better way to [do that] than to kill all of our biggest and beloved stars?"

The internal creative team was led by Patrick Cummings, who also directed the piece. Matt Jenson also served as the director of photography. The track you hear in the background is It Just Is by Rilo Kiley.
Ortiz describes the death scenes, "The minute our talent read the script, they were game. The creative team literally handpicked every scenario, every kill, to fit the spot and the stars. It was days of debating how to slash each of them. I do think they were all a little jealous of [The Challenge's] Leroy's gutting on the table. My favorite is Tyler Posey's knife in the head. And you have to love Molly Tarlov and Katie Stevens being shish-kebabbed with a fire poker."
