At the Cannes Film Festival Emily Blunt did more than just show up to the debut of her new movie Siciario. During an interview with members of the press Blunt mentioned that some red carpet practices are sexist. One practice in particular is about women wearing high heels on the red carpet. According to her, several women were turned away because they weren't wearing them.

Blunt said women should protest the Cannes red carpet ruling by wearing flats.

"I think everyone should wear flats, to be honest," Blunt said. "We shouldn't wear high heels anymore. That's just my point of view, I prefer to wear Converse sneakers. That's very disappointing."

Sicario's director, Denis Villeneuve, says the film leads should show up to the red carpet in high heels. This includes Blunt, Benicio del Toro and Josh Brolin.

"As a sign of protest, Benicio, Josh and I will walk the stairs in high heels tonight." The line got a big laugh, and now every photographer on the red carpet will be angling to see if they keep that promise.

Allegations of sexism and the movie Sicario seem to be going hand-in-hand as of late. Villeneuve says the movie's screenwriter was asked to rewrite it several times.

"People were afraid of the screenplay because the lead was female," Villeneuve said. "The screenwriter was asked to rewrite it several times."

It wasn't until Lions Gate came on board did the movie finally get made the way it should have; with Blunt as the lead. Blunt herself says she wasn't surprised by any of this. According to her, it's the nature of the business.

"It's something I've become quite used to. It happens quite a lot on films. There aren't a ton of chicks around."
