The Season 4 finale of Suits ended on USA Network with a major cliffhanger. With the Season 5 premiere of Suits announced, the lawyer drama casts iconic basketball star Charles Barkley in a guest-starring role as a possible new client fpt Harvey Spector (Gabriel Macht) and Mike Ross (Patrick J. Adams ).
In our finale recap, Donna (Sarah Rafferty) wanted more from Harvey but he wasn't willing to take the chance and risk their relationship. While Mike proposed to Rachel (Meghan Markle), Donna announced she was leaving Harvey and teaming up with Louis Litt (Rick Hoffman) as his secretary. Unable to convince her to stay with him, the last thing Donna said to Harvey was "I love you."
As we previously mentioned, actress Christina Cole joins the cast as Dr. Paula Agard, a Harvard educated psychiatrist who specializes in high end corporate consulting. And now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the NBA legend came down to Toronto and filmed his cameo. The sports superstar worked on his lines with showrunner Adam Korsh, Macht and director Anton Cropper.
Barkley tells THR, "It's really cool for me, because when they heard me bragging about the show they invited me and I was like, 'I gotta make it work.' Right now with playoffs we're in our busy time and the only day we have off is Friday. I was like, 'I don't give a sh*t. My day off, we're going up there to Toronto.'"
Korsh adds, "I'm the dipsh*t that grew up in Philadelphia in the Barkley era, so that's where the idea for this particular scene came from. Often I get asked to put people in the show as cameos, but when I heard Charles say he is a fan of the show, to me it's very personal. I'm a huge basketball fan, I always have been. And in particular a Barkley fan. We had to get him on."
