Back in 2002, Russell Crowe delighted crowds worldwide with his portrayal of John Forbes Nash, Jr. in the Ron Howard-directed film A Beautiful Mind. The film earned an Oscar for Best Picture. It's now being reported that the inspiration for the film has been killed on the New Jersey Turnpike in a car accident alongside his wife.
TMZ is reporting on the unfortunate death of the couple, stating that Nash was in the car with his wife Alicia on the Turnpike. The couple was in a taxi. Per the report, the driver "tried to pass another car and lost control." It was then that the cab hit the guardrail, forcing both Nash and his wife, who were not wearing seatbelts, to be ejected from the car.
Take a look at the trailer for Crowe's film below:
Nash, while one of the most renowned mathematicians in the world, battled paranoid schizophrenia.
The couple was married for 60 years. He was 86 years old, and Alicia was 82.
Following the news, Crowe took to Twitter to express his condolences.
Stunned...my heart goes out to John & Alicia & family. An amazing partnership. Beautiful minds, beautiful hearts. https://t.co/XF4V9MBwU4
