Before UFC Middleweight Champion Chris Weidman was the king of Nassau County there was New York Islanders legend Mike Bossy. During the infamous Drive for Five, Bossy scored 50 goals in 50 games and was one of the main reasons the Islanders saw so much success. He was only one of four people to accomplish such a feat. Now, more than thirty years later, the legendary record breaking puck has resurfaced on Ebay for more than $2,000 and he wants it back free of charge.
The puck's seller is former swim coach Jake Jacobson. Jacobson claims he received it from Bossy's daughter as a thank you for swimming lessons. Shortly after Jacobson contacted Bossy and offered the New York Islander his puck back. He claims Bossy, "didn't really seem interested." He also says Bossy, "couldn't even meet. It just wasn't a good offer."
As of now, there are four days left in the bidding. The starting bid of $850.00 and to buy it now you'll have to pay $2,995.00. There are currently zero offers.
Jacobson says he wants a real Islanders fan to be in control of the puck. He also says Bossy lost his chance to have it.
"I've gotten a few offers this week outside of the auction. I want a true Islanders fan to have the puck. Bossy had his chance to get it back."
The Hockey Hall of Fame and Museum are also interested in the puck. They are backing Bossy and his right to it.
"Mike's position is, if the puck was mistakenly given to the seller, it's his rightful property. He shouldn't have to buy it back."
Who do you think the rightful owner of the puck is? Is it NHL legend Mike Bossy or the swimming coach selling it on Ebay?
