Two bodies that were found between trees in Iowa were identified as the Iowa cousins that were missing for almost five months.According to the Associated Press, the Iowa Medical Examiner identified the two bodies as the missing cousins, Lyric Cook-Morrissey, 10, of Waterloo and Elizabeth Collins, 8, of Evansdale.
Wednesday, the bodies were found by hunters and since then, police have been investigating the location where they were discovered.The Black Hawk County Chief Deputy Rick Abben said, "Preservation of that scene is paramount."
Elizabeth's mother, Heather Collins, posted on her Facebook , "We have been so blessed by the [outpouring] of all the (prayers) and support tonight with the gut wrenching news that my beautiful daughter and niece's bodies were found by hunters ... This was [not] the outcome we wanted but we know that they are up in heaven with our Savior and [our] nightmare of where they are and what is happening to them has been answered." The comment has been removed from the grieving mother's Facebook page.
The two girls were last sen on July 13, leaving their grandmother's home for a bike ride o n a nature trail along Meyers Lake. The girls bikes were found along with one purse.
No arrest has been made as authorities continue to look for clues. The community held a vigil and 50 people were among many mourners to pray for the victims and their families. According to the Press-Citizen, resident Barb Collins said, "The hope was very high that these girls were going to come home alive, so this is quite traumatic for everybody that was involved."
