Rookie rapper Trinidad James is hitting more gold as he signs with Def Jam Records, continuing his rise. The Atlanta rapper has garnered attention due to his hit "All Gold Everything" that went viral on YouTube.
Rumors were being circulated on internet and twitter for past few weeks that the contract could be worth $2 million. It has been officially confirmed Dec. 13, that James will be bringing his Gold Gang Records to Def Jam as a part of the deal.
"Def Jam, thank you for believing," said James.
"We're excited to welcome a young talent like Trinidad James to the Def Jam family," Def Jam President Joie Manda said in a press release, MTV News reported. "Def Jam prides itself as both a cornerstone of hip-hop's rich tradition, and as a vital, forward-thinking label dedicated to breaking and nurturing emerging artists. Trinidad James represents the cutting-edge of what's happening in the culture today. We are thrilled to have him at the label, and look forward to growing his already massive buzz."
The rapper performed recently to a sold-out crowd at, New York's Santos Party House, HipHopDX reported.
James was born in the island of Tobago and migrated to U.S. when he was eight. He initially stayed in New York and later moved to Florida and finally settled down in Atlanta.
"It's really hard for a label to impress the artist, per se, because I'm just so focused on being my own man," said James, when he attended his debut RapFix Live by MTV's, Dec. 5. "Man, show me something, like something for real."
