Have you ever stepped foot in a Wal-Mart? You'll notice the demographic of their mostly-youthful employee base isn't exactly geared toward pop sensations who cater to older women. It's because of this that Wal-Mart is making some changes in their music selection. One of those changes is getting rid of Celine Dion from their store soundtrack. The pop queen will now have to get play in other stores because she won't find herself in Wal-Mart anymore.
In Wal-Mart's offices, executives frequently joked around about Dion being chosen in stores. One executive, Mike Moore developed a lot of angst over her CD being played in a store.
"One of my fellow associates recently developed a serious eye-tic from hearing Celine Dion's greatest hits on loop in our stores," Moore said.
On that particular album, Justin Bieber was featured on it too. Now a DJ will be put in place in their corporate offices and they'll be piping in music to every store. It's up to this one DJ to pick something that represents the entirety of their employee base.
This isn't the only change Wal-Mart has made recently. The more than 1.2 million workers are going to be getting some relief in other areas as well. For one, the stores will be warmer. They'll also be able to wear khaki, black denim and slacks of the same color. Workers who do tougher jobs in the back room or the garden area will have the ability to wear t-shirts and blue jeans.
While these new dress code changes have been put in place workers will have to pay out of their own wallet to buy the new clothes. The company won't be forking up any cash to their employees. One employee not happy about this is Salomon Fuentes.
"My fellow associates and I are more worried about being able to afford clothes at all rather than worrying about what we wear," Fuentes said.
