Before their sports videogame hits stores, 2K Sports has released a trailer directed by Spike Lee (Inside Man). Three covers were released, featuring Golden State Warriors Stephen Curry, Houston Rockets' James Harden, and New Orleans Pelicans' Anthony Davis for NBA 2K16.
According to USA Today, the announcement was made on the eve of the NBA Finals between Golden State and Cleveland. The developers aim to add realism to the game's interactive feature, MyCareer, which introduces players to the social and business challenges of professional sports.
The He Got Game director worked the intricacies of a 12-day motion-capture shoot at 2K Games' Bay Area studios. Known for his passionate fandom over the New York Knicks, the Malcolm X director shot 90 minutes of "cinematic narrative," which translates to about 12 hours of in-game drama.
2K spokesman Ryan Peters tells USA, "We added MyCareer in 2012, and we've always been trying to make it more and more of a real story, like a film with drama. We just told Spike, 'You transform the narrative, and we'll change that into digital polygons.' And he did that, bringing a protagonist and antagonist to the story."
Lee adds, "We follow a kid through the trials and tribulations of being a top high school player and the decisions he has to make."
On the official Twitter account, @NBA2k15 released the covers and state, "#BeTheStory in #NBA2K16, ft @StephenCurry30 @JHarden13 @AntDavis23 on covers! Pre-order today"
