Before its the official November premiere, CBS continues gaining momentum with its upcoming DC Comics superhero drama, Supergirl. Known for her costumes work in many Tim Burton movies, designer Colleen Atwood discusses how Melissa Benoist put on the famous Supergirl costume and became her comic counterpart.
As we previously mentioned, the CBS superhero drama will follow the comic book adventures of Kara Zor-El (Benoist). Born on the planet Krypton, Kara Zor-El escaped before its destruction. While living on Earth, Kara has been hiding the powers she shares with her famous cousin. But now at the tender age of 24, she decides to embrace her superhuman abilities and become the hero she was always meant to be.
According to Variety, the Oscar-winning costume designer came up with the ey-catching outfits behind Arrow and The Flash on the CW network. The Alice in Wonderland designer's work will also be seen when Supergirl premieres on CBS. In the comics, Supergirl flies into the air with her traditional red cape and miniskirt.
Atwood describes her approach to designing the superheroine's look, "I feel like there's a real love for Americana with Supergirl, and I wanted to really embrace that heart of women - there's enough skin out there in the world, it's not for everybody and Melissa was just the right person to pull it off. When I read the script I was just really blown away by how strong it was, and I wanted the character to have a strength and presence of self without a bunch of stuff."

As we previously mentioned, Benoist joins Grant Gustin (The Flash) as their costumed counterparts alongside their executive producer, Greg Berlanti, as they share the cover on the latest issue of Variety magazine. Perhaps this will be the only time fans will see The Flash/Supergirl crossover.
Supergirl will premiere in November on CBS Mondays at 8pm.
