For Hip Hop singer Kendrick Lamar, Janet Jackson is someone who influenced him in his formative years when she was at her peak in the 1990s. Lamar wants to have none other than pop icon Janet Jackson to feature in his upcoming "good kid, m.A.A.d city" single, "Poetic Justice."
"Poetic Justice" is borrowed from Jackson's 1993 movie. The track also has a vocal from her hit "Any Time, Any Place."
The track is assisted by recording artist Drake. Lamar hopes that once the schedules are all worked out, it will be easier to get OVO MC on set. But Lamar wants Jackson to grace his video, "That'll be a blessing [if Janet Jackson were to appear in the video]," he said, MTV News reported.
He also has made a personal effort to reach out to her minus the paper work and managers. "Janet, c'mon, Janet. No paperwork with the managers, contact the managers. This is artist to artist," he pleaded. "This is a young boy that looked up to you for years. Please, yeah, video, Janet Jackson 'Poetic Justice.' It'll only be right."
The album "good kid, m.A.A.d city" will be different as it has its share of short films that will weave the music in the album together. The crew is already working to complement the music, MTV News reported. "We actually started the visuals for this whole project," he said. "I called it a short film before I even started the actual foundation of the music."
Lamar is also working on a collaborative album with J. Cole. Lady Gaga too collaborated with Lamar for a new song, "PARTYNAUSEOUS."
"good kid, m.A.A.d city" sold 242,122 copies in its first week, Hitsdailydouble reported.
