Sugar, as great as it is to taste, is not all that good for you, folks. It's been reported that an average person takes in just a little over 20 teaspoons of sugar every single day. Which is a crazy amount of sugar—especially since the American Heart Association states that we should only take in about one-third of that. So, why should we lessen our sugar intake? Well, we've got five reasons why...
1. Obesity
Do you want to gain weight in an unhealthy way? Well, eat some sugar.
2. Diabetes
Are you hoping to get diabetes when you grow older? Well, eat some sugar.
3. Heart Disease
Hoping heart disease makes its way into your body as time forges onward? Well, eat some sugar.
4. The Calories
Okay, seriously – Health.com reports that one teaspoon of sugar contains 16 calories. Which means if one person is taking in 22 teaspoons of sugar a day, that's 352 calories on JUST sugar.
5. Even "Good" Sugar Isn't Good
Swapping out sugar for Splenda? Well, don't get too excited. Artificial sweeteners reportedly have no calories, which is good, but they apparently cause hunger... which means you eat more. And, if you're not following, that is bad.
