On the totem pole of "offensive" comedians, Jerry Seinfeld is pretty low. So if he's feeling that people are too politically correct these days, perhaps it's true. At least, that's what Real Time host Bill Maher and Roastmaster General Jeff Ross had to say on this past Friday's episode of Maher's HBO series.
Last week, Seinfeld made a statement that noted how colleges are too politically correct these days. In fact, he also claimed that a lot of younger people don't know "what the f*ck they're talking about." To that, it seems both Maher and Ross agree.
"If Jerry Seinfeld is too politically incorrect for you, maybe you should look in the mirror," Maher stated. Ross quickly agreed, saying, "I appreciate Jerry, who is not necessarily thought of as an edgy comedian, sticking up for comedy as an art form. Why do comedians have to water down? Comedy is medicine – it's the best medicine."
Ross then noted that stand ups have the ability, and responsibility, to "shine a light on the darkest aspects of society..."
But of course, being Jeff Ross, he couldn't let the heaviness of the situation linger for too long, because he claimed that Seinfeld's reluctance to perform at colleges means that he's missing out on all the "hot chicks" there.
"A groan's as good as a laugh..."
