Miss USA, Olivia Culpo has won the Miss Universe pageant Wednesday night in Las Vegas. The title has been brought back to the USA after 15 years. The 20-year-old is a sophomore at Boston University and now passes her Miss USA title to Miss Maryland, Nana Meriwether.
Beating 88 other competitors, Culpo stood next to Miss Philippines, Janine Tugonon who came in second, and Miss Venezuela, Irene Sofia Esser Quintero, who finished third.
Ecstatic about her win, Culpo tweeted, "What an honor! This night was a dream come true. Thank you everyone for your support tonight!! USA finally did it!" Her brother sat in the front row wearing her Miss Rhode Island sash in support of his sister and during the interview portion she recognized her siblings saying, "Id like to start off by saying that every experience no matter what it is, good or bad, you'll learn from it. That's just life," she said. "But something I've done I've regretted is probably picking on my siblings growing up, because you appreciate them so much more as you grow older."
The Last Miss USA to win Miss Universe was Hawaii's Brook Lee. So many years for USA without the Miss Universe title, Culpo talked about the pressure within the competition from the other global women,"For Miss USA, I felt more pressure to be lean," she said. "Here, they're bigger and taller. The look of Miss Universe is more voluptuous," she told the Boston Herald.
Now on her way to begin her media press rounds she tweeted, "Rise and shine!! Makeup time with @Yukyan51 for a long day of media. Ready for day one of #MissUniverse life :)"
