Rapper Nas has been sued by $10 million by a concert promoter who was had to suffer a kidnapping ordeal after Nas did not turn up for a 2011 New Year gig in Angola.
The promoter, Patrick Allocco had to take in the wrath of the people as he was kidnapped and taken hostage at gunpoint for 50 days. He was a held for ransom by the Angolan promoters as they wanted their cash back. He was released in February 2012, TMZ reported.
Allocco had paid Nas $300,000 advance and also had paid Jamiah Jai, a budding rapper $15,000. The court papers reveal that Nas who is sued for breach of contract was in Miami to attend the New Year's Eve engagement party of basketball star, LeBron James. Allocco also claims that he was made to suffer psychological, physical and financial injury making him loose his company and home in the process.
The lawsuit claims that he was taken to custody by the Angolan authorities and they refused to let him leave the country until he returns the money. The New Year's show was heavily promoted.
Nas and Jai eventually did repay the money, New York Daily News reported.
Nas whose real name is Nasir bin Olu Dara Jones, is facing problems with the U.S. income tax authorities, over $2.5 million in unpaid taxes, Entertainmentwise reported.
Nas has eight consecutive platinum and multi-platinum albums since 1994. Four of the albums topped the Billboard charts upon its release. His debut album, "Illmatic" received universal acclaim from critics and the hip hop community. It is also ranked as one of the greates LPs of all the time. It was even hailed as a musical landmark. In 2010, Nas collaborated with reggae artist Damian Marley, son of reggae legend, Bob Marley.
