The highly anticipated hacker drama, Mr. Robot, has been granted a Season 2 on USA Network. Due to overwhelmingly positive reviews and solid ratings, the ensemble drama starring Christian Slater (Mr. Robot), Portia Doubleday (Angela) and Rami Malek (Elliot) has been renewed.
In our premiere recap, Elliot (Malek), suffering from an anti-social disorder, is only able to connect with people by actually hacking them. After saving his cybertech security firm and their client, Evil Corp, from a massive hack attack, Elliot finds himself recruited by a mysterious anarchist named Mr. Robot (Slater). Unfortunately, after striking back at Evil Corp, Elliot finds himself caught by their mysterious figurehead, Tyrell Wellick (Martin Wallström).
As we previously mentioned, USA Network released the pilot online, ahead of its official premiere debut. The pilot was available for free online four weeks early across an array of digital platforms. In our MStars review, we already knew USA had something big in their hands, especially with the combined performances of Slater, Malek, and Doubleday, plus the suspenseful direction from Niels Arden Oplev (The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo) .
According to IGN, thanks to critical acclaim and almost 3 million views, USA has announced that they are picking up the hacker drama for a sophomore season. The second season, which will include a minimum of 10 episodes, will air in 2016.
USA Network President Chris McCumber tells IGN, "We knew from the moment we read Sam Esmail's provocative script, and witnessed the brilliant performances of Rami Malek and Christian Slater, that Mr. Robot is a stand-out series that is unlike anything currently on television,."
McCumber adds, "The overwhelmingly positive fan reactions to the pilot and the broad sampling of it, reaffirms our confidence in the series, and we're excited to see where this timely drama will take us for season two."
