It's being reported that famed comedian Jack Carter has died at the age of 93. The comic was a notable name on The Ed Sullivan Show. He reportedly passed away from respiratory failure on June 28 at his home in Beverly Hills, leaving his family and the comedy world stunned and saddened. The latter of which responded largely on Twitter.
USA Today notes that the comedian's career was an astonishing one in length, having landed in over seven decades.
Carter began in comedy after serving in World War II. His work touched not only the comedy stage but also that of Broadway and television. He was known on Broadway for his roles in Call Me Mister, Mr. Wonderful and Top Banana; and in television for his over 50 appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show as well as Texaco Star Theatre and being the host of Cavalcade of Stars. Carter was also the host of his own show, The Jack Carter Show, which was a portion of NBC's famed Saturday Night Revue.
Additionally, the comic was no stranger to film, as he teamed up with Mel Brooks for History of the World: Part I and the King himself, Elvis Presley, in Viva Las Vegas.
And while much of his work from the past is what many remember him by, he did make several appearances in more modern television. Back in 2014, Carter appeared on an episode of Showtime's hit series Shameless.
Which we can all probably agree is MUCH different from The Ed Sullivan Show, no?
