Reports confirm that promising Florida State University football star De'Andre Johnson was recently suspended from the team after attacking an unidentified female student at a local nightclub. Apparently the young woman got aggressive first, but Johnson violently responded with a brutal blow to the face.
According to the popular gossip webloid TMZ, the 19-year-old quarterback was fiercely pushing his way through the crowd at Yianni's nightclub in Tallahassee when the shocking incident occurred. Survaillence footage captures the fellow 21-year-old partier "raising her fists" in an attempt to warn Johnson to back-off. That's when he goes crazy. The viral video was just released by the State Attorney's office:
Clearly the girl does physically react first, but Johnson then delivers a direct punch to her face - hard. She immediately starts bleeding all over the bar, and later told authorities that she ultimately suffered a black eye from the jarring hit. She also had major swelling and a nasty gash on her nose.
On June 30, the freshman athlete turned himself in at Leon County Jail and was eventually charged with misdemeanor battery after posting a $500 bail. He's now suspended from playing football at FSU indefinitely while the case is still ongoing. The Seminoles coach Jimbo Fisher announced Johnson's dismissal on Monday evening (July 6).
Do MstarsNews readers believe Johnson deserves a harsher (or perhaps less severe) punishment?
Of course, Twitter's now abuzz:
@Rosenbergradio: "De'Andre Johnson with the grand opening, grand closing of the centch...good night and good luck..."
@joelklatt: "Hideous seeing De'Andre Johnson punch a female, and also ridiculous to see others standby and do nothing at bar."
@ericsports: "Just saw the video of Florida State QB De'Andre Johnson punching that girl in the face. What a scumbag."
Johnson was a four-star recruit who enrolled early at FSU in January (2015). He was expected to compete for the backup quarterback position.
Stay tuned as more details develop.
