Tyson Kidd WWE Spinal Injury: Talks Low Survival Rate After Samoa Joe Match

In the midst of a great tag-team run with fellow WWE Superstar, Cesaro, Tyson Kidd was hit with a spinal cord injury. The injury was said to be a freak accident that happened during a match with the WWE's newest superstar, Samoa Joe. This week, Kidd gave us a scary injury update on Twitter. Apparently, he suffered the type of injury that only 5% of people survive.

The initial injury came during an untelevised match. It also happened to be Joe's first official bout with the company. At some point, Joe hit his finishing move, the Muscle Buster and that's when Kidd went down with the injury. Once in the hospital, the former WWE Tag Team champion found out the severity of his injury and that it involved his spinal cord.

One doctor told Kidd he was lucky to be alive. The reason he survived was because of his athletic build and the muscles around his neck saved his life. Any other person in that position would not have been so lucky. There isn't a set timetable for Kidd's return, but there's a chance he'll be back in the ring within a year.

Shortly after Kidd's injury, Bret Hart sounded off about Joe's Muscle Buster to Sports Illustrated. He compared it to the pile driver his brother, Owen Hart, gave Stone Cold Steve Austin. "It's extremely dangerous," Hart said. "The move that Samoa Joe did was reckless, and the way they rushed that match beforehand in the back without giving Tyson time to prepare was mistake. Tyson is, pound for pound, one of the best wrestlers in the world. And that includes his mind. If you went behind the scenes at WWE, Tyson is an intricate piece of so many other matches."
