Complications continues on USA Network with an all-new episode. In tonight's Episode 5, will Doctor John Ellison (Jason O'Mara) and his nurse Gretchen Polk (Jessica Szohr) they don't need Darius Bishop (Chris Chalk) after risking their lives and professional careers to save an innocent boy?
In our previous recap, Dr. John Ellison (Mara) is a suburban doctor who used to be at the top of his game in the emergency room. Outside of work, Ellison is dealing with the emotional effects of his daughter's death. With the loss of his daughter, Ellison suddenly finds redemption after he saves a young boy's life from a drive-by shooting. Gretchen (Szohr), a street-smart ER nurse, is caught in the middle when Ellison becomes involved in a gang war led by Darius Bishop (Chris Chalk).
In our recent recap, John needed to transfer Antwon, the son of gang leader Ezera 'Easy' Tyler (Anthony K. Hyatt) to a secret facility to keep him safe from prying eyes. Unfortunately, John had to get his hands dirty with Darius to get the money needed. After an intense and bloody standoff, John was able to get the bribe money, but two of Bishop's lieutenants ended up in the crossfire.
In an interview with TV Line, the Life on Mars actor reveals if Darius will ever say "Thank You" to John, "'By the way, thanks.' Maybe that would be the end of it, if he'd just say, "John, thanks" and John goes, "You're welcome" and walks away and everybody's fine. But no, I agree. There should be a "thank you," but there certainly comes a moment where Darius and John begin to have this mutual respect for each other. Darius becomes a lot more humanized as the story goes on.
Mara adds, "Ultimately, Darius and John's aims are the same. Neither one of them want more people to die, so that's kind of where they start to meet eye-to-eye and even start to work together a bit. Also, we'll learn a lot more about [Antoine's father] EZ, and there's a pretty major confrontation between John and EZ later on in the season."
Complications continues on USA Network Thursdays at 9pm.
