One person is dead after a Zorb accident at a Dombai ski resort in Russia's North Caucasus Mountains last Thursday. Denis Burakov, 27, died on his way to the hospital after suffering from severe neck and spinal injuries as Vladimir Shcherbov, 33 survived the zorbing sport.
Officials are investigating the tragedy to find out whether the Zorb operator was negligent. The incident was caught on camera and captured the two tourists tumbling down the snow covered mountain in the inflatable ball, then going off track and falling off a cliff.
According to the Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper, the 27-year-old victim, a married father of two suffered a broken neck and spine. Shcherbov, only suffered from cuts and bruises was later released from the hospital.
The Zorbing activity first began in New Zealand in the 1990s. According to a translation from the Komsomolskaya Pravda, someone could be heard yelling in the video, "Denis, you'll be like Jackie Chan in the 'Armour of God' movie!"
When someone noticed the inflatable ball going of course the second time, another person in the video could be heard saying, "It's gone in the wrong direction again," and then, "It's OK, it'll stop by itself." People could be seen chasing the Zorb as it started accelerating hitting rocks finally stopping on a frozen lake in the Ganachhirskiy Gorge after nearly traveling a mile.
According to Lenta.ru, a Moscow-based website, a criminal case is pending as authorities check the Zorb operator's credentials and license.
