We just can't get enough of split pea soup and crucifix burns when it comes to the horror genre. Another film coming out this summer combines the possession sub genre of horror with the "found footage" called The Vatican Tapes and it stars Dougray Scott, Michael Pena, Kathleen Robertson, Dijimon Hounsou, John Patrick Amedori and Olivia Taylor Dudley. You can watch the trailer for this 2015 horror movie and learn more about its release date below!

According to IMDB and the film's trailer, "Angela Holmes (Dudley) is an ordinary 27-year-old until she begins to have a devastating effect on anyone close, causing serious injury and death. Holmes is examined and possession is suspected, but when the Vatican is called upon to exorcise the demon, the possession proves to be an ancient satanic force more powerful than ever imagined. It's all up to Father Lozano (Michael Pena) to wage war for more than just Angela's soul, but for the world as we know it." It looks to have elements of other Exorcist-like films such as The Exorcism of Emily Rose, Constantine, and other found-footage films like The Blair Witch Project and Paranormal Activity. It will be chilling to see these two popular subgenres combined into one film and to see what the ratio of technology versus religion material there will be. There look to be typical tropes of the horror possession genre with the leading lady wearing a nightshirt, floating so that her toes barely touch the ground and her stringy hair falling in front of her face, amongst many more.

The film is directed by Mark Neveldine (this is his first film that he isn't co-directing with Brian Taylor) and written by Chris Morgan and Christopher Borrelli. Apparently the film had been sitting around for a while because according to IMDB, it was in the 2009 Blacklist on a list of most-liked unmade scripts. Finally it will make it to theaters on July 24th! Check out the trailer here!
