Britney Spears Split With Fiance Jason Trawick, 'Been In Motion For Awhile'

Britney Spears and her fiance Jason Trawick called it quits after a one year engagement, TMZ reported on Jan. 11.  

The news came a day after it was announced that Spears had quit "The X Factor" after just one season.

Sources told the gossip site that it was a "friendly breakup" and that Trawick and the former singing competition judge will remain friends. While one source said the couple "grew apart," other sources said they were in court on Friday making arrangements for Trawick to be taken off of Spear's conservatorship.

Trawick, her former agent, did not want to make the announcement until his role as her co-conservator ended. He confirmed the split saying, "As this chapter ends for us a new one begins. I love and cherish her and her boys and we will be close forever."

Spears and Trawick, 41, "mutually agreed to end their one-year engagement," Spears rep Jeff Raymond told People on Friday. "As two mature adults, they came to the difficult decision to go their separate ways while continuing to remain friends."

"Jason and I have decided to call off our engagement," Spears, 31, said in her own statement, cited by the magazine. "I'll always adore him and we will remain great friends."

Trawick moved out of the home he shared with Spears but the couple had problems for months prior to the breakup, according to a report. Sources revealed that they had canceled their scheduled wedding in November when Spears was taping live shows for season two of "The X Factor."

"They are telling their friends it's being postponed, but they will probably never make it down the aisle," a source told Radar Online about the wedding plans.

A friend close to Spears shared a reason for the split, saying, "Britney doesn't think Jason is any fun and resents him because he acts more like a second father than a romantic partner, or equal."

"Britney and Jason have been sleeping in separate bedrooms for a very long time, and she has been staying in a hotel during the week because of the live X Factor shows, and although Jason stays at the same hotel, he is in a room adjacent to hers," the friend added.

An insider close to Trawick told Fox 411's Pop Tarts column he decided to end the relationship and plans of a split have "been in motion for a while" because he has been very "stressed" and "concerned for Britney" regarding what she might do if he left. He also felt more like a parent than her partner and "it started to take a real toll on him."

Spears and Trawick began dating in 2009 when he was her business agent. He proposed to Spears at his 40th birthday in December of 2011. Spears has two sons, Preston, 7, and Jayden, 6, with her ex-husband Kevin Federline.

Spear's father, Jamie Spears, will remain her conservator.
