Academy Award nominee Jake Gyllenhaal surprised everyone when he first showed up in the trailers for his upcoming boxing movie Southpaw. According to UPROXX, the actor added on 15 pounds of weight and muscle for the role after dropping a ton of weight for Nightcrawler. Gyllenhaal's daily workout involved six hours of boxing on top of 2,000 sit ups. 2,000 sit ups every day, you guys!
He was definitely committed to the part, especially considering his history with boxing; he has no history.
"I knew nothing about boxing when I started really," the actor told Entertainment Tonight. "I knew that in order for me to pull it off in any way, I was just going to have to learn how to do it. When I set my mind to something I just won't stop until I do it. It's something I pride myself on. It's something I hate about myself. By the end I felt like I could do it."
