Chicago rapper Chief Keef has been taken into custody Jan. 15, after he violated the terms of his probation.
The 17-year-old rapper was found guilty of violation of probation arising from an incident in July 2012, when Internet-based music publication, Pitchfork Media posted a video showing an interview with the rapper firing a Ruger 10/22 semiautomatic rifle at a firing range.
Judge Carl Anthony Walker said, "There is a clear record of a disregard for the court's authority," Chicago Sun Times reported. The Cook County juvenile court judge ordered him to be sent to custody and his sentencing is set for Jan. 17.
The rapper had dropped his debut album, "Finally Rich" Dec. 18, 2012.
Keef whose real name is Keith Cozart is one of those rappers who are in the news for all the wrong reasons. Keef was sentenced to 18 months of probation in 2011 that meant, no guns, no gangs and no drugs and after that he flashed a loaded gun several times at a police officer when stopped for questioning. He gave the police a chase and was booked for resisting arrest.
In early January, prosecutors said that Keef had moved to the posh Northbrook neigborhood without informing the probation officers. But the judge had not agreed with the prosecutors citing there was "no credible evidence". Keef 's lawyer, Dennis Berkson, told the court that Keef was only recording songs at the Northbrook home where a studio was set up, and the rapper still stayed at his Dolton home.
Keef is alleged to be a party in the murder of rapper Lil Jojo, Sept. 4. Both were warring against each other through online platforms before Joseph "Lil Jojo" Coleman was shot dead. Keef had posted a message taunting the death of Lil Jojo. But he later clarified that his Twitter account was hacked. Police have not booked him or accused him of any wrongdoing in the rapper's death belonging to the Brick Squad faction of the Gangster Disciples.
