18 human heads were found in a package in O'Hare Airport on Monday. The packages has been at the airport since Christmas and the Cook County Medical Examiner confirmed the specimens that came from Italy were covered in skin and wrapped in plastic.
According to Fox 32 the heads may have been sent for a scientific experiment or research and no foul play has been suspected. The U.S Customs and Border Protection are still investigating the incident.
According to Mary Paleologos, a spokeswoman with the Cook County medical examiner's office the 18 human heads were held for weeks due to improper paper work and the heads remained in her custody.
"Now the cremation service has showed up with the proper paperwork," Paleologos said. "The medical examiner's office will photograph and X-ray each of the heads" before returned.
