Life as a teenager is already hard, but life for transgender teen Jazz Jennings is probably even harder. Following her debut on TLC with the new hit Television series, I Am Jazz, the 14-year-old transgender girl is speaking out to Oprah about what life is like in the spotlight.
"You've gotten a lot of acclaims, Time Magazine's 'One of the most influential teens,' being one of the great acclamations you've received. The world now sees you as a leader, a trailblazer, a pioneer, a young woman who knows how to speak her mind," Oprah said before asking Jazz how the attention "settles itself" with the reality star, if she likes all of the attention, and does she want to go inside of a box and hide sometimes?
Jazz, who was sitting calmly, replied, "You know it can be very overwhelming sometimes," she admitted to the OWN host, before explaining that she feels a lot of pressure at times. "When so many people look up to me as an inspiration and a role model, I feel like I have to live up to those expectations."
Jazz continued, "I think I'm a normal person and I'm going to make mistakes and I think people have to accept that. But in the end I've discovered that it's not about me, but more about my message. So I don't care about the fame, I don't care how people treat me, I care about my message living on through other people."
So far, Jazz seems to be remaining positive when it comes to questions, dating and other typical teenage issues on her new TLC show.
Jazz is a soccer player, and says she loves hanging out with her friends. Jazz has one sister, Ari, and twin brothers.
