Deaf Twins Euthanized: Identical Beligum Twins, Marc And Eddy Verbessem Legally Commit Suicide After Going Blind

Deaf Identical Beligum twins committed suicide when they learned that they were going to be blind. The 45-year-old twins, Marc and Eddy Verbessem were born deaf, and recently learned that they both had an incurable condition that would leave them blind.

 The Verbessems twins reached a decision and asked doctors to move forward with euthanasia, which is legal in two countries including Belgium.  Dr. David Dufour told VTM News, "Physically, their conditions were strongly deteriorating."

Both twins were surrounded by family and friends when they received lethal injections , according to Dr. Dufour who spoke to RTL TV station Dec. 14^th, "They had a cup of coffee in the hall", he said. "It went well and [was] a rich conversation. Then the separation from their parents and brother was very serene and beautiful. At the last, there was a little wave of their hands and then they were gone."
